Start Smart Parent Tips

Support Programs for Children and Families

Start Smart offers free classes for parents, grandparents and foster parents with children ages birth to 5.  The program uses hands-on activities that focus on child development and preparing children for kindergarten.  Start Smart classes include information on developmental milestones, safety, nutrition, cognitive development and literacy, and use an interactive format featuring story-time, music, crafts, and snacks. Classes are available in both English and Spanish.

In addition, the Start Smart program also provides PAT (Parents as Teachers, a nationally regarded parent education curriculum) certified activities in the home and monthly parent workshops and neighborhood family story times.
