2016 Annual Report: Each year, in late fall, we take stock of SAY San Diego’s accomplishments as an agency and document them in an annual report of our progress. 2016 was a meaningful and exciting year at SAY San Diego. Our 45th! We are truly indebted to our terrific workforce, exceptional volunteers, and many talented and generous community partners and donors, all of whom fuel our work. Never doubt your critical importance. For a 36-year-old mother, SAY’s counseling staff recently helped her to change her life—making the difference between living in continual fear of domestic abuse; unable to keep her children safe, and finding a safe pathway forward, with her family intact, healthy and thriving. 2016 Top Workplace: SAY San Diego was named a 2016 Top Workplace by the San Diego Union-Tribune, for the fourth year in a row! This is wonderful recognition of our strong, positive culture and values, to be sure. Even better, upon being nominated by our employees, the process includes staff completing confidential surveys that allow us to gain insights into what makes our workforce tick, what inspires our employees, and what we can improve. Congratulations and appreciation go to each and every employee for this outstanding recognition year after year!
2016 Adopt a Family Holiday Drive: During the winter holidays, we join together with literally hundreds of volunteers and donors to embrace children and families for whom the holidays would not shine bright, if not for the support of the larger community! Hundreds of community members step forward to take on a shopping list of cold weather needs, essentials, and holiday dreams. Many also provide financial gifts to help local families. This year, wishes will be fulfilled for more than 2,000 children, parents, and grandparents as a result of this incredible support. Recently, one of our Adopt a Family donors mentioned to me how surprised she was to see a request for a bike for the Dad, because she pictured herself buying a bike for a child, in a bright color with a bell on the handlebars—yet, it brought tears to her eyes and broadened her awareness when she learned that this single father truly needed the bike to commute to his new job, and to pick up groceries, and to meet his goal to someday buy bikes for his children with his own earnings. We are Champions for Youth! When is a dollar worth more than a dollar? Well, right now! The Century Club has selected SAY San Diego as one of 12 area nonprofits to receive bonus bucks for every dollar we raise during their annual campaign, Champions for Youth. Every day the amount raised for SAY San Diego climbs higher toward our goal of $40,000 or more. 100% of the money raised goes directly into our work to provide opportunity, equity, and well-being for all San Diegans. Any amount large or small is helpful! Please join in.
